Laboratory tests support up to 70% of all clinical decisions and can aid clinicians in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating acute and chronic conditions. However, blood testing may be underutilized in managing patient care. Traditional venous blood collection has been utilized for many decades, but when this type of collection is not available or expeditious for certain patients, other methods will need to be utilized such as capillary collection. In this session, you will hear Dr. Ries, Medical Director of Critical Care, Tele-Critical Care, Patient Command Center, and Co-Chair system Sepsis Committee at Advocate Health - Midwest, discuss a case studie(s) about how difficult access to venipuncture can have an impact on patient care and clinical outcomes. You will also learn about a novel capillary blood collection device, the BD MiniDraw™ Capillary Blood Collection System, that is designed to address gaps in the current blood testing landscape.
