Poster abstract awards

2023 Distinguished Abstract Poster

ADLM promotes excellence in clinical laboratory science through several poster abstract awards and recognition programs. Presenting authors can be considered for multiple awards as long as they meet the requirements. Most awards also require you to indicate interest in being considered in your poster abstract submission.

Academy distinguished abstracts

Each year, a group of fellows from the Academy of Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine reviews the abstracts submitted to the ADLM Annual Meeting and selects a group for distinction. Several of the presenting authors will also be invited to give an oral presentation of their research. To be considered for this award, you must:

  • Be the first/presenting author of an accepted abstract for the upcoming ADLM Annual Meeting.
  • Present the corresponding poster at the ADLM Annual Meeting.

Note: There is no need to opt-in to be considered. All accepted poster abstracts are eligible for this award.

ADLM division abstract awards

ADLM Divisions will be awarding Scientific Abstract awards based on ADLM 2025 poster abstract submissions. Award details will be posted when they are available. Please select the Divisions you would like to be considered for an award in during your ADLM 2025 poster abstract submission. Contact [email protected] with any questions about these awards.

Student research awards

ADLM’s Student Research Award competition is held on the Monday afternoon of the ADLM Annual Meeting. Students, trainees, postdoctoral fellows, or residents who are presenting authors of accepted poster abstracts for the Annual Meeting are eligible.

Submitters must indicate they wish to be considered in their poster abstract submission. Following poster abstract submission, abstracts are judged based on scientific value, originality, and quality. Competitors will then be selected for one of two separate competitions held at the ADLM Annual Meeting.

Awards details

  • Student Oral Presentation Competition. The first/presenting authors from the top four ranked poster abstracts are invited to compete in an oral presentation of their poster abstracts. Competitors will have 10 minutes to present and up to 5 minutes for audience Q&A in a session. Judges evaluate the presentations to select winners for 1st prize ($1,000), 2nd ($500), and 2 honorable mentions ($250 each).
  • Student Poster Competition. The remaining first/presenting authors are entered into the poster competition during the poster networking reception where each poster will be visited by three judges. Please note that oral presenters may also present their poster but will not be judged. Judges evaluate poster competitors on scientific quality, clarity, and poster presentation to select winners for 1st prize ($500), 2nd ($250), and 2 honorable mentions ($125 each).

Eligibility

To be eligible to compete in the Student Research Award program, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student, college-level trainee, postdoctoral fellow in clinical chemistry or a related field, or resident in pathology or a related field.
  • Be the first/presenting author of an accepted poster abstract for the upcoming ADLM Annual Meeting.
  • Present the poster at the Student Research Awards competition held during the ADLM Annual Meeting.

You may enter with multiple abstracts, but will have to select one to participate in either competition.

Timeline

Notification of selection for the Student Oral Presentation Competition is expected by early June 2025. All remaining eligible first/presenting authors will be invited to participate in the Student Poster Competition.
