Poster Abstract Reviewers

Poster abstract reviewers play an important role in shaping the poster hall at the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting by ensuring this vital part of participants’ experience meets their scientific and educational needs.

Serving as a poster abstract reviewer also provides an opportunity to engage the laboratory community, gain critical experience in scientific review, and cultivate professional relationships.

2023 Call for Poster Abstract Reviewers

Thank you for your interest. We are no longer accepting reviewer applications for this year's meeting.

Please check back in the fall for the 2024 Call for Poster Abstract Reviewers.

2023 Timeline

  • 2023 Call for Reviewers deadline: January 31, 2023
  • Reviewer notification: Early February 2023
  • Training webinar: Friday, February 17, 2023, 2-3 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time — required for any reviewers
  • Review period (online): February 27 to March 16, 2023
  • Review deadline: March 16, 2023

With the support of the Annual Meeting Organizing Committee (AMOC) Poster Abstract Coordinators, the poster abstract reviewers evaluate up to 1,000 poster abstract submissions each year, ensuring they represent original research relevant to the laboratory medicine community and meet standards for scientific validity, quality, and consistency.

Poster abstract reviewers serve a three-year term, with about one-third cycling off each year. More than 100 reviewers are needed for each AACC Annual Scientific Meeting. We solicit reviewers annually and identify them through AMOC, AACC Divisions, AACC Sections, and/or other AACC committees.

The poster abstract review process takes place online and does not require an in-person meeting or attendance at the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting.

To be selected, you are expected to have:

  • Experience evaluating scientific content (e.g., scientific proposals, manuscripts, grant applications, abstract-based competitions, or similar).
  • Experience publishing and/or presenting scientific work in the area(s) you will evaluate poster abstract submissions.

If selected to be a poster abstract reviewer, you would:

  • Serve a three-year term, beginning with the upcoming AACC Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Maintain your AACC membership throughout your term
  • Participate in an online training/education session your first year. (Participation is highly recommended in subsequent years as well.)
  • Review and score up to 25 assigned poster abstract submissions each year.
    • Each reviewer is assigned up to 25 abstracts, depending on topical expertise and number of submissions received.
    • Assignments are based on reviewer-identified areas of expertise.
    • Each abstract is reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers.
    • Abstract review typically takes place in February to March. It is critical that poster abstract reviewers be able to review and score by the deadline.
    • The entire review process is conducted individually and online. It does not require any in-person meetings or attendance of the AACC Annual Scientific Meeting.
    • Apply standards and criteria consistently across submissions reviewed.
    • Submit scores in a timely manner.
